Tolman declined several support parts, including those played by mothers, wifes and besties, after her debut on Fargo. Tolman wanted a distinct character. In the year 2017, Tolman starred in ABC's Downward Dog, based on the Animal Media Group web series that was cancelled after one season. Tolman was an active Twitter user, stated that she earned "pretty impressive" numbers in The ABC drama Emergence. It premiered in September of 2019, however, it was pulled after just one season on May 21 2020. Also, she was a guest star on NBC's Good Girls. She starred in 2021 as Alma Filcott on the second season of Why Women Kill and Natalie Green in the book the Facts of Life, of Live in Front of a Studio Audience 3rd edition.
